Let me begin by first saying - Happy Mother's Day Moms!!! And next, Happy 25th Birthday Martin, you're old now!
I hope you all had a wonderful day!!
As you can probably guess from this picture, we had a very fun day! Yep, that's Kyle and Cort playing in the OCEAN!!
Being the beach lover I am, I've been more than ready to hit the sand the last couple weeks, but leaving Cort behind is always a bummer! So, I did some researching and found Flagler Beach, a city that isn't too far away and that allows dogs on designated (large) sections of the beach as long as they're leashed. YAY! Now, Cort is pretty much fearless when it comes to water but the ocean is different than his dog park lake and some of the trips that he'll be joining us on this summer involve big water and potentially water crafts. As brave as he is, with big water comes big waves so I decided that if he's going to be playing out in the rough surf with us he should wear a life jacket. If not for his safety then for my peace of mind. (Kyle was kind enough to humor me and go along with this.)
Well, this morning we packed up our towels, some beach PB&J and one REALLY excited Cort and headed to the shore! We got there, put on Cort's new life jacket and off he went!! (We got a few looks when we first got down to the beach but I think everyone quickly understood) No surprise, Cort couldn't wait to get in the water and he liked playing in the really big waves for the most part. There were a couple really big ones that went over his head and freaked him out a little (the life jacket works!) and I think he would have enjoyed it more if he could have been unleashed to ride them in. But, leash or no leash, his water antics, sand digging and other energetic Cortish behaviors entertained just about everyone on our section of the sand! Kyle managed to get in some reading for school, time in the water and a little cat nap and I got some sun, ran around like an 8 year old and left covered in as much sand as one! Don't let me fool you, as it seems with any trip we take with our playful pooch, there were a couple of times when I wanted to float him out to sea, but overall it was a great day!
P.S. Shockingly enough there are lots of pictures of our (mostly Cort's) day at the beach up on Picasa if you want to check them out. There's a few of them over there ----->
