This was a fun new development that was only a matter of time in the making. Just what you want to see when he already has a busted chin that keeps getting broken open. At least he had on a helmet that was 2 sizes too big and almost all the pads. (Spoiler he fell a matter of seconds later but did not sustain any injuries.) This guy however, same activity, same location, different outcome 12 hours later. Yep, the two best brothers now have matching chins. Wonderful! Nora and Lincoln were having their before bed - but after Otto is down hangout and they emerged to inform us that Lincoln had gotten hurt (he was very calm!) Kyle immediately knew what had happened, I had no clue that all the thumps I'd been hearing were rollerblade related - silly me for not just assuming! Again, the rules in place were that he had to hold onto the bed and a helmet was worn but yeah...turns out helmets only protect the top part of the head...chins seem to be on their own especially around bed frames! Having a house that IS a gymnasium is just full of fun and surprises! I think we were both rewarded for our calm casual response to the whole thing because after this they both went straight to bed without a peep. Cause for celebration!

Green Means Go Red Means No!
Had a quick check-up at the doctor today. All is well, they had friendly red light, yellow, light green light lists of activities for social distancing...here's the red light ones. So much for all those playdates I had scheduled! Can we talk about how tired I am by the time the kids go to bed at night! UHG!

Fits and Giggles
Who doesn't love some kid giggles to break up a day of kid fits and tantrums! Sometimes when I'm under attack by angry children tickling is the best remedy to hopefully help them reset. We did a lot of tickling today!

Lost in a Book
It was a big day for Nora today! Her class started reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. By her class, I mean her teacher is reading it aloud to them and they can read along with her. After the initial try Nora wasn't a fan of that idea so we told her she could read ahead and then just listen and enjoy her teacher reading if she preferred. Well, she dove in! She's over halfway through the book and super excited to keep reading. I will say it's nice that she just goes off and reads quietly and contently for such a long time then returns in a great mood because she's so happy with her progress. Kyle took this picture and sent it to her teacher. We'll see how much longer it takes her to finish the book...after watching her today she definitely has my reading tendencies!

The Second Best Idea
Happy Mothers' Day!!
While there were a few sleep interruptions last night, this morning I was allowed/required to sleep in. When I was invited to come out of my room there were decorated waffles awaiting! We had a lovely breakfast, the kids did a lot of playing - Kyle took kids for a run too. This evening we had a little appetizer then Zoomed with the Majewski family - including Grandma Maj this time! It was a lot of fun to see everyone - although I think it was a little overwhelming for her with all the faces and talking and side chatting going on but I'm sure she also liked seeing everyone even if it was just on a screen for a bit. She said that she's lived through some strange times, but this is the strangest! Hopefully she'll get to see at least some baseball this year! So the fastest moving day of the year has come to a close and it's back to the grind tomorrow. 2.5 more weeks of school to go! (Apparently those last two ever important days after Memorial Day aren't going anywhere!!). I hope all the moms and want to be moms and meant to be moms and moms who don't want to be moms to their own littles because they are meant to mom all the people, and people missing their moms - I hope everyone had a good day today!

Gone Fishin'
Today was a boat day. We of course got started about an hour later than intended (as usual) but we had a full day reservation so there wasn't a big rush. After packing up snacks and gear and snacks and kids and snacks and a Cortland (who we were going to leave home but who suckered us in to taking him with his innocent persistence) we headed to New Smyrna to fish and boat and let the day take us where it might. First it took us to some flats so the kids could fish. Here's the thing - Cort is a really good boat dog. Cort isn't a great fishing dog. Turns out he has learned our boating routines/tendencies - when he hears "wake" he immediately lays down on the floor, when we anchor he gets excited to swim...apparently when we cast a line he's ready to jump ship and fetch it! Needless to say, 3 kids with fishing rods with fake bait and a zillion hooks, a dog that wants to fetch and ya know, being huge - I wasn't the best of sports about the whole experience. At one point I announced that next time, instead of going boating we were all just going to sit at home in front of a fan and eat snacks since that's all they seemed interested in. I still don't think it's a terrible idea. Anyway, after not catching anything other than the same bush twice followed by the LINE we cut because we couldn't get the lure out of the bush the second time - yeah, they caught fishing line - thus the same bush again! Anyway, we moved on. We came across a nice little sandbar on the Intracoastal and beached so the kids (and Cort) could swim for a while. A cold front was working through all day today so I knew the kids were going to be freezing when they got out and on the windy ride back but that didn't stop any of them. They caught a hermit crab to check out and found lots of "treasures" AKA oyster shells, to bring home. I relaxed on the boat and took a break from serving snacks. Otto called it quits first and got first dibs on change of clothes and bundling towels and eventually we got the other two back on the boat to head in too. We needed a few extra hands to shove off because the tide had moved out a bit but I didn't feel too bad about it because so did a couple other boats haha. We had to make a brief turn around on the trip back to net my hat out of the water - hey, a successful catch! Once we were home we had some dinner then went for a walk/roller blade/bike ride. We were on the back stretch of our loop when Otto totally wiped out - shockingly for the first time. He lost control of his handlebars and went down face first in the street. Luckily his helmet saved most of his face but his chin got it pretty good. Kyle got him back on his bike and he spend the rest of the ride home doing a combination of walking, pedaling and crying loudly. I don't blame him it was no doubt scary and had to hurt a lot! Once we were home we treated his wounds as Sally from Charlie Brown demands any dog-germ interaction is handled - Get hot water, get the disinfectant, get some iodine (AKA Wet paper towel, Neosporin cleaning foam and Bacitracin). Then he earned a bandaid. Turns out his baby, O-T-T-O (that's it's name) had a very similar experience while we were gone and also needed to have it's chin cleaned up. We had to get all the "blood" off though because it made Otto super upset to see that his baby was hurt - he was VERY concerned. BUT, he helped go through the steps to make his baby feel better and then they had matching bandaids which he seemed to approve of. Once they were both all cleaned up we read some stories and tucked them into bed. We'll see how sleep goes tonight - Otto has a track record of interrupted sleep with he's sick or injured. Fingers crossed the day tired him out enough that it won't be an issue. Phew! That's a long post! That's Saturday for ya!

Life's a Parade
his school closed out the week with a parade of students through the drive through. When we all drove through he was SO excited and proud to stand on the console and hold his sign out the sunroof. The teachers were all there and cheering and it was a cute little "event".
Nora and Otto waved out of Otto's window - which I was both shocked and impressed by their willingness to let Lincoln have his moment without too much fuss - at the time. When we got home all three of them spent time with their heads out of the roof of the car. Have to keep it even! Glad it's the weekend.
